Teaching Philosophy

In addition to our guiding principles, WYIS, along with all ISC schools, adheres to the following teaching philosophy:

  • We believe in operating an educational program based on Christian principles that is open to students irrespective of race, color, or creed (except as prohibited). Our courses of study are intended to equip students for living in contemporary human society.
  • We believe that WYIS exists to provide academically excellent learning opportunities within a college preparatory course of study. We do not believe that we can meet the schooling needs of all students.
  • We believe that the responsibility for education rests upon parents. We believe that the school should assist families in helping their children to develop a sense of their own worth and identity as human beings.
  • We believe that education is the continuing process through which this awareness develops in an individual as he grows in all areas of his life toward his fullest potential.
  • Since every experience is a part of that process, our responsibility is to provide the opportunity for intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual and social growth.

Guiding Principles

There are many components to a well-rounded education, but what matters most is the foundational beliefs the school is built upon. Everything we believe in is based on three pillars:

Academics

We believe that education is a lifelong process that allows people to develop to their fullest potential. For this reason, our academic programs feature rigorous curricula that focus on the mastery of a core body of knowledge and on the discovery of additional knowledge. We establish a partnership between the school and the parents and we emphasize the development of the whole child.

Character

Our actions influence the world around us, so as human beings, we have a responsibility to act with honor and integrity in all areas of our personal and professional lives. We want all of our students to become people who consistently do right in thought, word and action. We emphasize service, character development, a strong work ethic, perpetual growth, loving interaction with others and an appropriate level of independence.

Truth

We believe in the existence, accessibility and applicability of transcendent truth. Students should be able to articulate and defend an appropriate view of truth.
